Jhoon Rhee is a world-renown 10th degree black belt and considered the ‘Father of American Tae Kwon Do’. Starting in 1956, he was the first person in the United States to teach Tae Kwon Do and is largely credited with popularizing martial arts in North America.
Mr. Rhee taught Bruce Lee and also awarded Muhammad Ali and Tony Robbins a black belt. In addition to instructing various other celebrities, he has trained over 300 U.S. Congressman and acquired numerous accolades from Presidents Ronald Regan and George H. Bush.
At the age of 79, Mr. Rhee still performs 500 sit-ups and 1000 push-ups every day. His personal motto is “100 years of wisdom in the body of a 21 year-young”.
Mr. Culin was awarded his Black Belt by Grand Master Jhoon Rhee himself, setting the vision for Culin Karate Center Ltd. forever!
After meeting Mr. Rhee in 1991, Mr. Culin’s martial arts career and personal philosophy was forever changed. While receiving training and testing under Mr. Rhee, and Master Jose Santamaria for his black belt, Mr. Culin changed from a “go-getter” to a “go-giver” in Mr. Rhee’s own words. This was the defining moment for Mr. Culin and set the vision for Culin Karate Center and Mr. Culin’s mission to impact the world through one black belt at a time.
